About the Journal

Submission Windows: Student-written articles (referred to as Notes) are accepted during three submission periods each year: January, April/March, and September/October (check the Announcements page for exact dates).
Topic Choice: Notes can cover any legal topic, provided it is not preempted by existing publications.
Preemption Check Required:
- Topics must present a sufficiently novel viewpoint, updated legal thought, or new case law if similar topics exist.
- Topics should be balanced—neither too broad nor too narrow.
- Students are required to research treatises, legal indices (spanning at least 5 years), major cases, and existing journal pieces before submitting.

Word Count: 1,000 to 15,500 words, inclusive of footnotes.
- Excludes cover page details (e.g., table of contents, abstract).
- Submissions outside this range require prior approval from the Notes Development Editor.
Submission Method: Must be submitted via the journal's official online submission system following the guidelines on the Announcements page.

Graded Work Restriction: Per university policies, students cannot submit a Note or Comment during the same semester it is being used for qualification assignments.
Generative AI Disclosure:
- AI usage is not disqualifying, but full disclosure is mandatory upon submission.
- Authors must detail which AI tools were used, where and how they were used, and how the material was verified.
- Failure to disclose AI usage—especially if it results in hallucinated sources or quotes—may result in a rescinded publication offer. A disclosure footnote may be required in the final publication.
